A Letter From Charlie
Charlie is my roommate. He’s current top contributor to Where’s Cool? and solving his frequent business travel needs was a big part of the creation of the site. Here’s what Charlie had to say to friends about the site in an email. I liked it so much I had to post it.
From Charlie:
Hola muchachos y muchachas (or muchachas y muchachos),
My roommate (ron) is a web god and has recently built from scratch a travel website for cool people like us. it’s called wherescool.com and it is about highlighting those off the track spots that you and i are actually looking for when we roll into somewhere for a couple nights, but don’t usually come up on the net. i love the concept, and i think it can be a great way to share cool places with likeminded folks. anyway, he dropped it a few weeks ago to his inner circle to start de-buigging and adding content. we’ve made a lot of progress since then. […] please check it out and set up a profile and start adding spots and photos and cities and hoods. you can really add anywhere on the planet. think of it as a way doper, global yelp. and note the top user to date…yours truly.
at first glance this seems like perhaps a gratuitous thing in the current climate of the world. but i think it is important that people like us continue to create intentional spaces and intentional community (both physical and informational). the more we can build understanding of whats going on in different places with different people through modes other than the big guys (myspace, facebook, etc) and on our own terms, the more we build our own ownership of the world. this site is good looking, high functioning, fun, and informative. checking out where’s cool will do more for you this week than writing to tim geithner. trust me.
your big red box,
charlie
